Why am I
getting a "Quarantine Report"?
We (CFWebmasters.com) have always employed some means of
protecting our customers from viruses and SPAM. Up
until recently those means meant blocking or deleting
offending mail before it ever reached your inbox.
From time to time a legitimate message was caught by
accident and deleted without your knowledge. These
legitimate messages are called "False Positives" and we
always want to keep those mishaps to a minimum. Because
of this, we found it difficult to increase the scanning
level which would have increased both the SPAM catch
rate and the possibility of increased false positives.
We implemented the "Quarantine Report" in order to avoid
accidentally deleting the false positive messages.
Now you have the opportunity to review and release those
messages before they are deleted. This allows us
to increase the scanning and block a lot more of the
junk mail that was getting through.
That's
not SPAM! It's a friend of mine.
From time to time our SPAM scanners will pickup mail
that really isn't spam. This is referred to as a
"False Positive" and is normal. The best thing to
do when this happens is to add the person to your white
list. This makes sure that their email isn't
caught again in the future. The easiest way to do
this is to release the "SPAMMY" message by clicking on
the release link in the quarantine report. It will
open up Internet Explorer and then tell you the message
has been released from quarantine. Just underneath
that message is a link that says "add this email to my
white list". Click on that and they will be added.
Do I have to delete the messages that have been blocked?
No, not at all. In fact, if you leave them alone
they will disappear on their own. Beside every
message is an "Expiry" column which is measured in days.
When the "Expiry" reaches 0 it will be deleted
automatically. The amount of mail in your
quarantine does not affect the performance of your
mailbox and can be faithfully ignored if you wish.
Can I
turn off the Quarantine Report?
Yes. There are two ways you can turn off the
Quarantine report. When you receive your daily
report there is a sentence in the first section of the
report that will allow you to "click here" to disable
the report. You can also log onto your webmail at
http://mail.cfwebmasters.com/webmail and then click
on the "Settings" tab. To your left will be an
option that says "Reporting". When you are in the
reporting options, just uncheck the box beside "generate
reports every X days".
I accidentally turned off the Quarantine Report, how can
I turn it back on?
You can log
onto your webmail at
http://mail.cfwebmasters.com/webmail and then click
on the "Settings" tab. To your left will be an
option that says "Reporting". When you are in the
reporting options, just check the box beside "generate
reports every 1 days". Your report will come back the
next morning.
Why am I getting so many viruses in my report?
Surprisingly enough, you are not getting more
viruses now than you did before. You are just
seeing them now. Previously we blocked them
outright and deleted them before they got to you, now
they show up in the Quarantine report.
Can I
access my Quarantine any other way?
Sure! The Quarantine report that is emailed to
you every day is just a snapshot at 4am in the morning.
You can always access the quarantine folder and see what
is in the quarantine at any time by logging onto
webmail
and then clicking on the quarantine tab at the top.
What
happens when I release a message?
When you release a message from the Quarantine it takes
about 5 minutes before it will show up in your inbox.
There is a trick though. Your inbox is usually
organized by date/time and the most recent messages
always appear at the top. The released message
will have the original date/time. When it comes into the
inbox it will not show up at the top, but in sequence
with the other messages from the previous day. You will
more than likely have to scroll down a bit to find the
message.
How can I make sure someone's email always gets through?
When you release a message from the Quarantine you will
be asked if you want to "Whitelist" the address.
When you "Whitelist" the email address it will make sure
that no mail from that email address is scanned for SPAM
again (although virus scans will continue). From
that point forward their email will ALWAYS get through.
What is a
"Whitelist" and a "Blacklist"?
A Whitelist is a list of email addresses that you allow
to pass through the email system without being scanned
for SPAM. You can add an entire email address(bubba@cfwebmasters.com)
or an entire company by using a * anywhere in the
address; as an example *@cfwebmasters.com will make sure
the entire companies email from cfwebmasters.com will
get through. A Blacklist is the exact opposite and
will block ALL mail from that email address regardless
of content. Blacklists also support wildcards (*).
How can I access my Whitelist and Blacklist?
You can always access your white and black lists by
logging into
webmail
and clicking on "Settings" at the top. Options for
your White and Blacklists will then be located to the
left.
Can I turn
off the Spam Blocking?
Yes! You can turn it off for your email address,
or your entire company (if you are the email
administrator). You can also control how much
blocking you want. By default we set it to the
highest level, you can lower or remove blocking by
logging into
webmail
and clicking on "Settings" at the top, then selecting
"Anti-Spam" to the left.
Can I turn
off the Virus Scanning?
Although we would never recommend it, you can turn
off the virus scanning by logging into
webmail
and clicking on "Settings" at the top, then selecting
"Anti-Virus" to the left.
Do I still need a virus scanner on my computer?
Yes! Yes! Yes! It is always a good practice to
have your own virus scanner on your computer and always
up to date. Although our system protects you from
email borne viruses it can't protect you from someone
bringing one in manually via diskette or from
downloading a virus off of a website somewhere.
What
if I am still getting allot of SPAM?
Let us know! We will be more than happy to take a
look at what you are getting and try to configure your
account to reduce your unwanted email.
